CONSULTATION

An initial meeting is set up to fully understand the clients’ needs and budget. Usually taken place at the project site, the purpose of this meeting is to get an idea of the clients’ goals and to ensure FIELD will be a good fit for the project.

PROPOSAL

After the scope of services is agreed upon, FIELD will draw up a proposal and send to the client for review.

SITE ANALYSIS

Upon receiving authorization to proceed, FIELD will visit the site to complete a thorough site analysis. FIELD will study the existing site conditions including topography, solar access, hardscape, vegetation, landscape features, drainage issues, as well as look for opportunities to provide screening while preserving key views.

CONCEPT DESIGN

Following the site analysis, conceptual design sketches will be developed and presented to the client, as well as landscape character images to convey the design intent.  The purpose of the conceptual design phase is to give the client a preliminary look at design options and to provide an opportunity to discuss any other design ideas that may come up.

LANDSCAPE MASTERPLAN

After review and client approval of the preferred concept design, FIELD will produce a cohesive illustrative landscape masterplan. This plan is rendered, to scale, and shows all proposed hardscape and softscape materials, general dimensions, and grading information. If requested, FIELD can also produce perspective renderings, section elevations or a 3D digital model to better help convey the design intent. The landscape masterplan can be used for preliminary cost estimating.

PERMIT DRAWINGS

After review and owner approval of the illustrative masterplan, FIELD will produce permit drawings as required by the local regulating authorities. The plans may include, but are not limited to: demolition plan, site plan, tree protection plan, grading, drainage and stormwater management plan, sediment and erosion control plan, and construction details.

CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS

After review and owner approval of the illustrative masterplan and a budget is agreed upon, construction documents will be produced. These drawings are necessary to obtain accurate pricing from the contractor(s) and help ensure that the landscape elements are installed in general conformance with the design intent.

BIDDING ASSISTANCE

FIELD shall create bid packages, review bids and coordinate with qualified landscape contractors. Thereafter, FIELD shall respond to questions from the landscape contractors. Once final bids are received, the owner shall award the project to the preferred landscape contractor.

CONSTRUCTION ADMINISTRATION AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Once construction begins, it is important that the landscape architect be on site periodically to make site observations and to ensure that the landscape elements are installed in general conformance with the design intent.   In order to make sure construction on a job site is running smoothly, FIELD shall respond to questions and observe mock-ups from the landscape contractor, provide recommendations to the owner, and review the landscape contractor’s architectural shop drawings, product sheets, samples and other submittals.
